This 6 – 5 win of team New Zealand sent team Argentina at the bottom of Group D. There was no favourite in the match. The resolution came in the late fourth quarter, when Julian Beardman completed his hattrick.
There were two goals in the beginning. In 2nd minute Zachary Beardman scored a power-play goal. New Zealand`s lead was only thirty four seconds in length as Diego Marcoloongo tied the game.
After twenty minutes team Argentina was in the lead. Thanks to a perfect pass from Hernan Shanly, Diego Marcolongo scored easily. Not long lead again. Julian Beardman hit the target and it seemed to be a draw in half-time. However, Trent Kemsley scored the leading goal.
In 31st minute the game was tied. Facundo Vadra beated powerless goalie of New Zealand. Sexteen seconds later, after a goal by Jason McLean, the “Kiwis” were in the lead again. 5 – 3 was on the scoreboard after Julian Beardman calmed his team down for a while.
Three minutes left in the last period Argentinian fighters managed to tie the game. The goal-shots were fired by Hernan Vigo Laborde and Dacundo Vadra. The final result came when Julian Beardman scored a last-minute goal. “I am glad for scoring three times. I am taking part in such a huge tournament for the first time. It`s outstanding,” said Beardman.
This loss means team Argentina ends at the bottom in group D. “We are sad about this. We need more practice,” said Hernan Vigo Laborde.
Patrik Lee (Team New Zealand head coach): We are glad for the first place. Argentina was a strong opponent. In addition, we were quite lucky.
